My Attempts In Capturing Water Drops
My inspiration for this series was a set of photos I discovered on Tim’s Digital Darkroom. Tim’s done a few of these series and I know he uses something a little better than a point and shoot digital. The thing is that I wanted to see what I could achieve with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 and so I set up all the equipment I needed in the kitchen sink and these are the results.

This next one almost looks like a penis emerging from a pool of water and perhaps that is a drop of sperm flying through the air.

This next one is unbelievable and definitely my favorite. The water that this apparition emerged from was the most turbulent out of all the photos that I took during this series of photos. Can you see the face in the resulting splash?

No, well perhaps a closeup of the shot is needed.

I showed the photo to my daughter and the first thing she said was that it reminded her of the Virgin Mary. Personally I think that it the features are definitely male and that the person is wearing a veil or something over his or her head. I can just imagine the furor if some religious nut came up with this photo.
So, I would be really interested in knowing what you saw in the photo?
The FlexSqueeze Theme gives my blog that professional look. I loved it so much that I bought the developers license. It's the easiest most customizable theme I've come across. See how easy it is to change your theme's appearance! Compare it to Thesis to see how much better it is! I am so thrilled with this theme that I highly recommend you to get your FlexSqueeze theme today! Like this post? Show your appreciation by buying me a coffee.

I must say I am rather impressed
a) given the camera you were using and
b) being your first time
Love the commentary too about the phallic one
you sure can get some weird shapes huh!
Nice job!

Hi Tim. Imagine giving some of the shapes that you get from this sort of experiment to a psychoanalyst to try on his patients. “Now sir, what is the first thing that comes to your mind when I show you this image?”
Answer, “Why, it’s a huge penis, and I do believe you have a bit of flying spoof there as well.”
Still, that wasn’t my favorite one, as I said in the post, the one that really took my breath away was the one that had the image of a person in it. Were you able to see it?

I not only saw the face, I conversed with it!
Yeah, like instead of the ink blot tests I’ll be given water drops a to interpret!
At least I don’t have a huge nipple bush in my yard

Really? And were you conversing with a male or female? If female did you get her number and could she please do a repeat for me only next time do it topless?
As for nipple in the garden, well I reckon you would dearly like to have your own version.
Some interesting shots there mate! Good to see you at BE.

I may not get there as often as I like Hutts but I could never forget about the place. Nice to see you visit mate.
I were not aware that such photos can be done with a point and shoot. Good to know.
And now, with the closeup, I can see the face. But it is an ape with a hood.

Personally Marcel, I thought it looked more like a space age man wearing a futuristic helmet.
H2o is an amazing thing in allot of aspects. I personally like image #2 it looks lite a flower emerging from a pool. Keep up the great work, Now you got me thinking about using my flip camera and just using frames from the video as still images.
Great post

Hey, that certainly sounds like a plan Brad. I’m currently saving for a digital SLR, before I attempt drop shooting again as I reckon the photos will turn out so much better.
I believe the pictures are awesome. One question: how did you do it? I am pretty sure my camera can’t do that :)
I’m sure you could do it, it just takes patience and a lot of wasted shots. I simply focused the camera on a pre-determined spot and just started taking photos.
You make it sound so easy! No need for a professional camera here?
Actually a professional camera would give better quality, more defined pictures.
Well it has come back again after two years, Sire. that is the blogesphere. Some great shots all the same, mate.
Sorry Pete, what’s come back after two years?
These pictures. First shot in october 2008. Check comments.
But they’ve always been here so how could they come back?
They came back to me through the message system.
Well that’s weird?
I normally get these when there are new comments. So it must have been a long time between drinks.
