The Black Swan: Animals Make Great Photo Subjects
I’ve always found that animals make great subjects for a good photo, especially when they stand fairly still for you. I took these shots whilst waling down the River Torrens as it flowed quietly passed Adelaide.
There were quite a few ducks around as well but for this post I want to show you a couple of photos that I took of some swans and their ducklings. Speaking of ducklings I don’t know how the Ugly Duckling story ever came about because I found them quite cute.
This first shot is where they’re strolling calmly along the grassy virtues of the river bank. I must admit that the adult swan is really quite graceful, while the duckling while not as beautiful is certainly not what you would call ugly. Still makes for a good story I suppose.
This next one is of a pair swimming in the River Torrens. I rather like this one better than the previous one. Reckon the water provides a nice background.
The FlexSqueeze Theme gives my blog that professional look. I loved it so much that I bought the developers license. It's the easiest most customizable theme I've come across. See how easy it is to change your theme's appearance! Compare it to Thesis to see how much better it is! I am so thrilled with this theme that I highly recommend you to get your FlexSqueeze theme today! Like this post? Show your appreciation by buying me a coffee.

These photos are absolutely beautiful.
We have a pond in a nearby park that display traditional swans and ducks, but not the black variety.
I am so pleased that you shared these with the net family.
Beth
My pleasure Beth, I’m glad you liked them.
I have never seen black swans before, so I was amazed at these pictures. I like the second one more as well. How close did they let you get to them?
Mitch´s last blog ..It Takes Guts To Have An Opinion
Yeah the second one is my favorite as well. There are always plenty of swans in the area and you can get really close as well.
Hey, I just noticed you changed your image!

blackswan ? r u kidding me with photoshop touch ?
Not at all, these photos are just as I took them. Black swans are quite common over here.
Great shot of the swans and cygnets. We have black swans in New Zeaaland that are now protected; they come from Australia originally. Kiwis used to shoot them during the duck shooting seson, back in my young days.
Cygnets, so that’s what they call those baby swans.
Thanks Peter
I love nature shots Sire. My friend Brian Hawkins sent me. Nice photo blog.
Thanks AJ, and I must thank Brian for sending you.
I love the black swans, over here in England we just have the white ones mostly.
Are the black ones vicious like ours are?
These ones weren’t vicious, at least they didn’t appear to be. Perhaps because they are so used to people.
Yep,animals do make great subjects. I have to stop myself from taking too many though otherwise my collection would just be animals. Got two kittens that never fail to entertain :-)

They certainly can make interesting subjects, and yes it’s probably a good idea to look for other things to photograph every once in awhile.
Congratulations on your work! Here at the keys we have a wide variety of birds. My wife who is an amateur photographer loves taking pics of them. I’ve told her to set up an online portfolio several times, but she says “she’s not a professional, who would care to see her work”. I hope someday she stops being that shy! Well, keep up the good work.
Tell her I’m not a professional either but people still like to see my photos, and I would love to see hers ;)
I was attacked by a black swan, years ago, in Windsor Great Park while photographing a wedding!
It actually drew blood and scared the **** out of me!
never again!
As it would Amanda. I haven’t heard of anything like that happening here, and those swans let me get really close to them as well.
Maybe it’s because you guys don’t feed them ;)
Stunning photos. I’ve never seen a black swan before!
I like the second photo better … I think that the colour of the beak really stands out. Beautiful!
Thanks Marica, they are beautiful creatures. I like that second shot as well, I think it’s because of the way a ray of sunshine caught the beak at just the right moment.
Ya I totally agree with you. These black swans really make good photo subjects. I had never seen black swans. Well I am a nature lover but not much updated about its fauna. Just love admiring nature’s creations. I wasn’t even aware about such a thing I used to think that swans exist only with white color. Good work done dear. Are these very rare as I have never found one of these kind?????And great photographs …..!!!

What’s weird is that I didn’t know they were so rare as I see them all the time when I’m in the area.
We don’t get to see black swans out here in Atlanta, GA. My parents location has a ton of wild life and my mother is a big fan of taking photos of every duck and bird that swings around. I’ll be forwarding this to her. Thanks for sharing with us.
