There are times when you think you’ve taken a nice photo but once you view it on your computer it just doesn’t seem quite right, even after photo shopping it. Sure its good enough to put in the album but it’s just not good enough to put on the wall. Well, don’t despair, that is unless you don’t own a Apple MacBook Air MC505LL/A 11.6-Inch LaptopLaptop Computers)
. I bought one earlier this year and I love it, I even wrote a review on it called 11-Inch MacBook Air Review, but this post isn’t about a computer it’s about using it to make your photos truly unique.
Let’s take a look first at the original photo.
Now, what say we turn it into a famous painting, say one that Van Gogh would have painted.
Or perhaps one by Cezanne?
Then again we could always use Benson for some inspiration.
Then again we could always use more of an Aquarel water style to our photo.
I don’t know about you but I like the way I can turn this photo into virtual works of art. What’s that, you want to know how I did it? Well, like I said at the beginning of the post, all you need is a Mac computer and an app called AutoPainter Express. Just go to your App Store and type that into the search bar, and the best thing is it will only set you back $8.99. That’s what I love about the Mac, the apps are so realistically priced.
There is an app that gives you a whole lot of other different effects, like this one;
but I think I will leave that for another post.
Oh, before I go, which picture is your favourite?
The FlexSqueeze Theme gives my blog that professional look. I loved it so much that I bought the developers license. It's the easiest most customizable theme I've come across. See how easy it is to change your theme's appearance! Compare it to Thesis to see how much better it is! I am so thrilled with this theme that I highly recommend you to get your FlexSqueeze theme today! Like this post? Show your appreciation by buying me a coffee.

Yeah, you can do alot with filters these days :)
I think I prefer the “Cezanne” version, not really sure why, I just like it more than the others.

My favourite is the Benson one abut I also like the soft pastels of the Aquarel.
You have to admit though Klaus that $8.99 is a damn good price considering what it does?

Yeah sure if you’re into paintings with paint’ish things, but I’m more into paintings with light, ie. real photography :D

As you can see I do that as well, but using this app just adds to the creativity.

This actually makes me sick….. Sometime back, for our anniversary, my sister paid someone to turn our wedding photograph into a painting. This guy showed her a great picture online of the painting, she paid for it and he shipped it to me. The painting was ghastly! I screamed at her spending what must have been a fortune on something so sub-standard. Her response – but he showed me the painting (online) before I paid for it! Oh, well!

Hey Sam, sorry to hear that. Not much you can do though if he showed it to her and she liked it. Also if it’s an actual painting rather than a computer generated image you have to allow for actual labor costs.

Okay, I have to admit that’s pretty neat, but it’s not neat enough for me to switch to a Mac! lol I like the original picture myself, though; where is that?

Wow! But since I can’t justify to the wife to get me a Mac just for this app, I hope there’s an equivalent application for PCs. I like the Cezanne version. Does it paint Seurat (pointillism) style?

It really amazed me on how the picture could be a painting through application. How I wish I got a mac. I like the Van Gogh version of the picture

That’s so great man! Did you use Photoshop to do all of this, and if you did how did you do it? Trying to look through your site to find some type of tutorial but can’t. Anyways, great job, turned those swans into some nice paintings.
Dude, read the post, he explains inside the post above how he did it :)

The Van Gogh version is my favorite. Great post, I’ll have to try this with my photos sometime.

Cool, I must say the after effect is truly awesome. Just wondering does the Mac application had any Windows PC version? I mean – Auto Painter Express

When I saw the first transformation (Van Gogh), I thought that it was a terrible app. Then I scrolled down and saw the others. My favorite is Cezanne. People can really make a great impression with simple apps such as the AutoPainter Express, can’t they? Alas, I do not have Mac, nor do I have plans to purchase one.
Rachel Lavern recently posted..Will You Achieve Your Dreams?
Whilst I agree with you Rachel, there are some who would prefer the Van Gogh one ;)

Many photo/image editing software contain filters that can change a photo any many different types of paintings. You would just need to determine what type of painting you like best. It is just a matter of learning how to use the filters, however, or you could just get the AutoPainter Express.
From the examples above, I like the Benson one the best.

If it comes to having to learn how to use a filter and simply clicking a button I’ll take the second option every time. :)

Wicked post fella, I downloaded some photoshop actions from deviant art (I just googled painting photoshop actions and it was the first link) which do similar things sorts of thing. Pretty cool post – thanks for sharing and giving me the inspiration.
Anytime Nick.
Great perspective, it’s true – you can turn a ‘normal photo’ to a great painting. There are a lot of programs, I personally tend to use Photoshop for this, even though it’s kind of hard to realize these transitions. Thanks for sharing!

Who says that bad photos can be a good one? My favorite is the Van Gogh version. It really looks like a painting and not a photo edited using an app. If you will ask me if I can easily recognized this converted picture as edited or painted, for sure I will answer painted one! I would love to try this.

I know Photoshop also has some similar filters, but i never use them simply because i don’t feel like the end result is art. It looks like art and it smells like art, but it’s still fake.
