Yeah, I know some of you are going to call me a big girl because I love taking photos of flowers, but what can I say, flowers are really pretty, and can make for some really stunning photos. The fact that no two flower is really alike means that there is always a huge scope for the amateur photographer to show his stuff.

Roses always make a popular photographic subject. You may pick a pinkish one;

A red one, whose petals look almost velvety;

Then again, perhaps one with a yellowish tinge to it.

Perhaps we should take a shot of a single tulip;

Or a bed of tulips;

Whatever you choose you can be sure that the lighting you choose can make all the difference;

Or and intricate busy one complete with bugs.

Whatever flower you choose, you can be sure that photo options they can provide is almost endless.

While in Sydney we took a ferry over to Watsons Bay, which considering my proneness to sea sickness wasn’t the best of trips. We stopped over for a bit to have a meal at Doyles Restaurant. The food was pretty good but as far as I was concerned not worth the nauseous trip. Perhaps if I was feeling better I would have appreciated the food more.

I was sort of dreading the trip back, but fortunately we boarded a catamaran on the return journey which was shorter time wise and a hell of a lot better in the nausea department. I was even able to take a couple of shots, this one of the colorful sailboats being one of my favorite, especially because I as also able to capture the Sydney Opera House in the background.
Reckon I caught this one just as it hit the water as you can still see the top of the drop.
These were all taken with the flash.
I then changed to an orange plastic bowl for the next shots.

Another drop frozen in motion. Interesting the way the colors are inverted.

Remember that these were all taken with a point and shoot digital which presented several difficulties over and above one of timing. The worst one had to be focusing. It would have been so much easier if the camera had a manual focusing setting. Still I am pleased with the results.

My inspiration for this series was a set of photos I discovered on Tim’s Digital Darkroom. Tim’s done a few of these series and I know he uses something a little better than a point and shoot digital. The thing is that I wanted to see what I could achieve with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 and so I set up all the equipment I needed in the kitchen sink and these are the results.
This next one almost looks like a penis emerging from a pool of water and perhaps that is a drop of sperm flying through the air.
This next one is unbelievable and definitely my favorite. The water that this apparition emerged from was the most turbulent out of all the photos that I took during this series of photos. Can you see the face in the resulting splash?
No, well perhaps a closeup of the shot is needed.

I showed the photo to my daughter and the first thing she said was that it reminded her of the Virgin Mary. Personally I think that it the features are definitely male and that the person is wearing a veil or something over his or her head. I can just imagine the furor if some religious nut came up with this photo.

So, I would be really interested in knowing what you saw in the photo?
