What really stood out about this remarkable church is the many domes it had, five in all. It wasn’t the best of days as it was overcast but at least it allowed even lighting for the photos. Naturally I could use the same technique I portrayed in my post about changing the sky but I prefer to leave it the way it is.

That’s enough for now, let’s get on with the photos. The tallest tower in this first photo is actually the bell tower. I bet you it rings loudly on those religious occasions.

For this next one I just got a bit closer, changing the angle, so I could get a different perspective.

Finally there is this last shot. I particularly like this one because the angles are a stark contrast to the curves of the spherical domes.

Of the three which one is your favourite and what is it about the photo that makes it better than the rest.

The

Let’s face it, centering the picture is pretty boring and this is accentuated by the fact that many people do it. Taking it from face on may not be the best angle either. Let’s look at some photos I took of a particular subject, in this instance The Sacred Hearts College Chapel which is found on Brighton Rd Somerton Park South Australia.

Rather than taking it from a distance I got closer to the subject giving the photo a different perspective.

I also tried taking it from a different angle giving me this shot.

I thought that the shadow of the palm tree spoiled the shot a little and other than coming back when the sun was in a different spot I walked back some getting the offending palm tree in the shot seeing if that improved the shot a little.

You could even focus on a particular part of a building to see if that would give you just the shot you are looking for.

The beauty about digital cameras, as I have mentioned on more than one occasion, is that it enables you to take a multitude of shots on any given subject, and seeing how this is the case it would be a waste not taking advantage of it. So, instead of just taking one shot of any given subject, take the time to experiment by taking it from different angles and you may be surprised on the outcome.

The

The building turned out to be St, Mary’s Cathedral. It was designed in 1865 by William Wilkinson Wardell, but the spires themselves were not completed until it’s Jubilee Year 2000.

It’s not surprising, being Sydney and all, that St. Mary’s has it’s own web page which is full of information including Mass times, and a history of the church.

While this is a fairly good shot of St Mary’s Cathedral it looks a little cluttered because there is too much going on in the background.

I find this next shot makes the cathedral stand out so much more, as it should.

The

I think the reflections of the clouds actually adds to the religious intensity of the photo. It just goes to show you that the possibilities for photos are everywhere, you just need to open your mind to them. As for the subject, well I’m not sure but I reckon it is either Jesus or St. Dimitrios.
