I reckon no matter how many photos there are of any one subject it would be pretty hard to find two that are completely identical. This is because there are so many factors involved in the taking of any one subject. These factors would include lighting, the camera, camera lens, the person taking the photo, and the where that person is standing and how he or she is framing the shot.

The last one is all to do with perspective. You may be some distance away and having to zoom in or you may be close to the subject causing you to use more of a wide angle shot. A lot also depends on the angle of the shot and how that particular angle may include different facets of the background and I’m sure we will all agree that the background has a lot to do with the composition of any particular photo.

Take these series of shots, they’re all of the same subject but each one is different. The funny thing is that not everyone will have the same opinion as to which shot they like the most.

This series is of a dead tree standing in the middle of Sydney somewhere. I came across it when I was walking to the Sydney Markets and what made it stand out to me was the way some of the branches were painted gold. I reckon it must have some significance and if anyone knows what that is I would appreciate you leaving a comment.

Personally I like the last one the best as I like the silhouette look it has against the sky background.

Whilst visiting Sydney and strolling down Hyde Park I couldn’t help but notice this beautiful Cathedral. I just had to get a closer look at what to me is the most beautiful building I have seen for some time.

The building turned out to be St, Mary’s Cathedral. It was designed in 1865 by William Wilkinson Wardell, but the spires themselves were not completed until it’s Jubilee Year 2000.

It’s not surprising, being Sydney and all, that St. Mary’s has it’s own web page which is full of information including Mass times, and a history of the church.

While this is a fairly good shot of St Mary’s Cathedral it looks a little cluttered because there is too much going on in the background.

I find this next shot makes the cathedral stand out so much more, as it should.

Next post I’ll show you some shots of the beautiful interior.

Although I’ve covered taking photos of reflections in a couple of previous posts, mainly Reflections Of Sydney and Reflections On Glass, A Religious Photo, I wanted to paste a few more photos that I took of different buildings whilst in Sydney.

You will notice that when taking these sorts of photos the type of building as well as the subject of the reflection can make all the difference. You should therefore keep that in mind when picking your subjects as well as framing your shots.

This first one, unlike the one in the previous post, has larger darker frames which give the photo a completely different look. Also I panned out a bit in this shot so the reflection included a lot more subject matter in the surroundings.

This next two were of the same building but taken on different days.

I played did a bit of a touch up with this next photo using ACDSee. All it took was a click of the mouse and I think it made a whole lot of difference.

You can get your own Free Trial Download of the ACDSee Pro 3 software. That link will let you trial the software for thirty days which is more than enough time to evaluate it.

When framing or composing your photo it is sometimes a good idea to look deeper into your subject. One of the things that you notice a lot of in Sydney is it’s tall buildings and a lot of people try to take a photo with some sort of skyline in the background. With this shot I zoomed in and focused on a portion of the windows of the building as I thought this would make a good photo.
I’m pretty pleased with the result as it gives it a look of a painting that some modern artist painted.

While in Sydney we took a ferry over to Watsons Bay, which considering my proneness to sea sickness wasn’t the best of trips. We stopped over for a bit to have a meal at Doyles Restaurant. The food was pretty good but as far as I was concerned not worth the nauseous trip. Perhaps if I was feeling better I would have appreciated the food more.

I was sort of dreading the trip back, but fortunately we boarded a catamaran on the return journey which was shorter time wise and a hell of a lot better in the nausea department. I was even able to take a couple of shots, this one of the colorful sailboats being one of my favorite, especially because I as also able to capture the Sydney Opera House in the background.
I loved it so much that I bought the developers license. It's the easiest most customizable theme I've come across. See how easy it is to change your theme's appearance!
